To put it simply, the windshield wiper motor is wired to the vehicles main power supply and the battery which provides it with the power needed for the wipers to work. After creating the power needed, a neat linkage converts this power into the left-and-right motion of the windshield wipers.

If the windshield wiper motor is not working, it is always a good idea to check the wiper fuse and to replace it as recommended by the manufacturer.
